Events that night at the Lesser Free Trade Hall, Manchester, would be claimed as a cultural ground zero for the city. The mythology has it that the gig was the spark that ignited the Manchester music scene: all the city’s key players-to-be mystically called together by the siren call of punk rock and sent on their way to start their own pop culture revolutions, armed with a blueprint drawn up by the Sex Pistols and handed out in the stalls of the Lesser Free Trade Hall.
